First you must acquire the following:
x Skinny Jeans - I'm sure by now everyone owns at least 1 pair of skinny jeans and if not, you can definitely get them for pretty cheap brand new from most stores. If thats not within your budget - hit a charity store/ thrift store/ opportunity shop, make it even more authentic by visiting online vintage stores.
x V neck - The v neck style is mainly worn by guys, but girls can do it too. These are a little harder to come by so keep an eye out for v necked t-shirts. You could even make this a DIY mission by cutting up some op shop shirts and resewing them into v necks. This will probably be even more like a Hipster look.

TIP: Hipsters don't admit they are Hipsters! |
x Vintage accessories - You can get these from anywhere at the moment. Its very much part of the fashion. Otherwise again try online stores for authentic accessories. The more unique, the better.
x Button Up! - An oversized plaid shirt that buttons up, roll up the sleeves and away you go. If thats not you then try a Vintage jacket, buttons are a must.
x Ironic T-Shirt - Hipsters like to showcase their irony. Nothing says that better than a tacky 80's or 90's nostalgia shirt. Try look for things you stuffed in the back of your wardrobe. Or again try vintage t-shirts online. I think with these you can be as expressive as you like. Anything with a pop-culture reference (because this is the opposite of what Hipsters actually like) works fine. Now the only other thing you need to know about the t-shirt is it has to be OVERSIZED. This is super important! And make sure you tuck it in!
x Old skool shoes - Try Doc Martens or Converse. But again try get them pre worn. Don't do up the laces. Any vintage looking shoe will do. Even the cheap Ballet shoes will work well.
x Mismatching - Again its about the irony. 80's was all about clashing colours etc. So experiment with all sorts of items to help define the look. The more Hipster chirpy clothing you own easier it will be to mismatch.
x Other ideas - Oversized belts, Pleated skirts, Frayed Stockings over stockings, Colourful scarves, Wrist bands/cuffs.
One thing you need to know about the Hipster look is that it evolves all the time. These are the current trends at the moment, which defines this look in a particular way. But feel free again to mismatch and create and experiment. The more geeky and vintage the item is, the more it will probably be hip and influence your friends ;)
